Volunteer Spotlight: Leslie

Meet Leslie, a volunteer advocate with CASA of Galveston County!
Learn about why she became an advocate on this #MotivationMonday.

I spent the last 30 plus years in sales and management for the multi family housing industry.  During my last few years in the industry our company raised money for St. Jude Hospital to help cancer patients.  We also raised money for Camp Hope to help returning war soldiers with PTSD.  After I retired in 2015, I felt I should be doing something productive that would in some way give back to the community again. I discovered CASA through my step daughter in law, Christa.  Christa donated one of her kidneys to her cousin.  Christa and her husband Scott already had two boys, but wanted a little girl. Understanding another pregnancy may be very risky, they decided to foster with hopes of adopting a little girl.  When I discovered CASA was a volunteer opportunity I decided to apply.  After completing my certification class I was sworn in February 1st of this year. I am still continuing to learn through our online LMS and by attending seminars. Advocating for children can be challenging, but does have rewards during the journey.  I am hoping and praying for a happy ending to my case.  For now I am glad to be able to make a difference for someone along the way. Thanks to my CASA of Galveston County family for helping me make this a rewarding experience I will never forget.
