Trust-Based Relational Intervention: Correcting Principles

TBRI is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. This interactive, 8-hour workshop will provide participants with an introduction to TBRI, Correcting, Empowering, and Connecting approach as developed by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross. Certificates of completion will be provided.

Session 4: Correcting Principles

Available Session Dates:

  • Friday, March 27th, 9am – 11am CST
  • Wednesday, April 1st, 3pm – 5pm CST
  • Friday, May 15th, 9am – 11am CST

Objectives:

  1. Define the Correcting Principle and explain how it supports healthy boundaries and self-regulation.
  2. Differentiate between proactive strategies (teaching skills) and responsive strategies (addressing misbehavior in the moment).
  3. Practice tools such as choices, compromises, and re-dos to guide behavior while maintaining connection.
  4. Identify the importance of caregiver self-regulation when correcting challenging behaviors.
  5. Apply correcting strategies to foster responsibility, respect, and trust in caregiver-child relationships.
