SESSION 6: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, BIAS AND CULTURAL COMPETENCE

PRE-WORK INSTRUCTIONS

Please complete the following Pre-Work before you attend your sixth volunteer training session:

Complete:

  1. Complete Chapter 6 Pre-Work – Online Pre-Work or use manual (pages 200-217)
  2. Complete at least 2 Implicit Association Tests (IAT). There are multiple tests to choose from, including Race, Skin Tone, Sexuality, Disability, etc. Each test will take you roughly 10 minutes. After completing at least two tests, please reflect on the following questions
    1. How did you do?
    2. What surprised you about the exercise?
    3. Think about some of the cases you’ve encountered so far in training. Did you observe any stereotyping in the Bleux case? What about the Greene case?

Bring to class:

  • Questions about “Understanding Domestic Violence”
  • Individual Action Plan for Cultural Competence Activity (complete online or on worksheet)
