Volunteer Spotlight: Patrick

Meet Patrick, a volunteer advocate with CASA of Galveston County! Find out why he became a CASA on this Motivation Monday!

My parents instilled in me at a very young age that giving back and helping others should be a part of your everyday life routine.  My mother worked for CPS for 43 years and she partnered with my dad, who worked at a local university, to set up college scholarships for children who were in foster care.  We would host a party for the graduates each year at our house and I thought it was really fun to see how just a little help could go a long way.  Fast forward 20 years and I’ve got a daughter with whom I would like to teach the importance of giving back so I thought I better start leading by example.  I went to a CASA Information session and I was the only one who was in attendance.  Kathryn Holmes, the CASA recruiter, wasn’t going to let me leave without committing.

My best experience so far is having the judge use my recommendation to unite 4 siblings who were in separate foster homes be reunited under one roof with their biological grandfather.

I work in Private Wealth Management at Merrill Lynch in Galveston, TX and my favorite applicable quote is, “Great change always comes down to the actions of a single person.”- Michael Scott, The Office
