The Cost of Caring- Helping the Helpers
October 28 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join us virtually to welcome Marisa Nowitz, MSW, LCSW-S, Vice President of Education and Training from Trauma and Grief Center, Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute!
Empathy is defined as the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another (Merriam Webster).
In addition to providing empathic support to children from varying backgrounds and life circumstances, CASA advocates and staff are often natural caregivers for others including team members, family, and friends. Utilizing a light-hearted approach, this presentation explores the ways in which being exposed to the stories of others’ difficult, and often traumatic, experiences can impact us individually.
Participants will be given tools to decrease risk for compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, and burnout. The session also discusses strategies for enhancing compassion satisfaction and resilience and seeks to re-frame the way we think about “self-care.”
We look forward to seeing you there!
