April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Find Out How You Can Raise Awareness

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and CASA of Galveston County is raising awareness of abuse that is happening within our community in a variety of ways.

Last year, CASA of Galveston County served 250 children experiencing the foster care system in our county. This April, consider stepping up to make a difference. Here are a few ways you can support CASA of Galveston County’s critical mission:

  • Attend CASA of Galveston County’s Candlelight Vigil on April 7, 2026
  • Attend or sponsor CASA’s Passion for Fashion Style Show on April 24, 2026
  • Sponsor a virtual pinwheel for CASA’s virtual pinwheel garden in honor of the 250 children they served last year
  • Make a suggested donation of $25 and receive a CASA awareness T-shirt
  • Volunteer! Become a Court Appointed Special Advocate
  • Donate

Please visit CASA of Galveston County Child Abuse Prevention Month’s Website with more details: https://casagalveston.org/capm26/

CASA volunteers, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, are community members with different backgrounds and experiences who are recruited and specially trained to advocate for children experiencing the foster care system and provide a consistent, reliable adult presence for them during a difficult time in their life.

CASA volunteers are assigned to one child or sibling group to advocate for their best interest in court, in school and in other settings. They get to know the child, and everyone involved in their life, such as their parents, therapists, and teachers to build a network of support around them and make recommendations to the judge overseeing the child’s case, with the goal of ensuring that the child finds safety and permanency.

It is time for our community to come together, raise child abuse awareness, and support.

If you think someone is hurting or mistreating a child, you must act. Call the Texas Abuse Hotline 1-800-252-5400 or go to www.txabusehotline.org. If a child’s life is in danger, call 911
